QUANTUM COSMOLOGY
part 1 of the "LuCeBar X" project

"LuCeBar X" is an acronym for the main ingredients of the many parts of this personal project:
Lumen/Lux (emitted light spectrum),
Celsius (temperature),
Bar (pressure) and
X (which stands for the often surprising effects of a photo-chemical process).

The original artworks display a variety of different camera-less and experimental photographic techniques (e.g. luminograms, photograms and chemigrams among others). All handmade using instant film in the darkroom of my basement. Hence there is also an intended wordplay with the name of "lucifer" ("... a name that, according to dictionaries of the English language, refers either to the Devil or to the planet Venus when appearing as the morning star..." Source: Wikipedia).
I used many different custom built objects and light sources for this project. For example several laser pointers, infrared light bulbs, UV-light emitting LEDs, customised color changing deco-lamps, different handmade lens-constructions, caleidoscopes etc. After that I experimented with different printing and manipulation techniques e.g. printing the exposed film with squeegees on top of credit cards, earlier crafted woodcut blocks or shoes, drawing on the back of the photos with a dull pencil, putting the exposed and still developing film into the freezer or using a very hot light bulb or hair dryer to change the final colors and shapes of the motives. The list goes on and on.
Since the instant film of my choice is quite small in size I then went on Macro-photographing and digitally enlarging the final results and used some Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop for minor adjustments like dust removal, color correction and sharpening. So now I think it’s even more likely to get lost in the details and beautiful (analogue-ish) colors of this ongoing series.
